Police are looking for the owner or driver of a dark-coloured Jeep-style vehicle tonight (Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016) in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a Kamloops teen Friday evening on Pacific Way.

Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said police have looked at numerous residential surveillance videos, and the SUV was in the area at the time of the hit and run.

She also confirmed earlier reports that the victim is Jenn Gatey, a Kamloops South secondary school student who would have turned 17 today.

“It is always tragic when a young person dies, but in this case, where Jennifer died the day before her 17th birthday, it is especially heart-breaking,” said Shelkie.

“That is why it is vital that we speak to the driver of this vehicle. We are asking the public to contact the Kamloops RCMP if they know who this vehicle might belong to or who the driver was.”

RCMP released photos taken from a video surveillance camera of a vehicle in the street. She pointed out that the vehicle of interest in the photos is the one traveling on the street, not either of the vehicles parked in driveways.

The investigation is ongoing by the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit and Traffic Services.
