YOU SAY – New Royal Inland Hospital parkade is a small embarrassment
Some comments from readers on the ArmchairMayor Facebook page:
Bonnie Jeston (Nov. 2) on David Suzuki column on fuel spills:
According to the initial report that barge had just delivered a load of diesel fuel to Bella Bella to run their electricity generators. How can you scream and yell about a fuel spell from a delivery of fuel that you yourself are going to benefit from? Fossil fuels are going to be around for a long while. Let’s work hard to make the delivery of such fuels, however they must be delivered, as safe as possible with the best technology that we have. And continue to work toward making this a fossil free world in the future. Anyone who thinks that all cars/trucks/boats/airplanes can suddenly stop using fossil fuels by next Wednesday is clearly not understanding where we are as a planet at the moment.
Rob Dwyer (Nov. 1) on Kelly Ellard pregnancy-in-prison story:
Excellent take on not only Ellard’s situation .. deplorable as it is .. but on the apparent lack of guide lines for these visits. What is the most likely outcome for this child’s future … difficult to imagine anything good.
Nel DeWit Mitchell-Kloubek Sarrasin (Oct. 28) on Ajax and RIH parking:
There seems to be a lack of common sense. If AJAX wants to do business they should be proving that they will not harm us in their endeavor. Why should us taxpayers pay for a study for a foreign owned company to exploit our land? This is really as stupid as the new parkade at RIH that has no empty parking sports for 4 consecutive Wednesdays in a row. I have been going down around10:50 for 4 weeks with no vacancies. Why did the City not build another level or make the ‘business’ level into parking stalls? Our City is becoming increasingly embarrassing to live in.
Ron Watt (Oct. 29 ) on Ajax and the doctor shortage:
We all know there is a doctor shortage in Kamloops, just as there is in most BC, maybe all Canadian, towns. This is an attempt to help alleviate a bad situation. We need more doctors, fine, agreed, but how? Is PG awash with doctors? Pretty sure Salmon Arm isn’t. What about Ashcroft these days? And Ajax is the reason? Just how many Ajax’s are there because if that’s the reason for community doctor shortages, as Russ Noakes seems to believe, then there must be a lot more open pit copper mines than I’ve ever realized. Peeing on other’s attempts to ease a problem is easy — won’t work, too little, too late, doesn’t help everybody, too expensive, etc. Coming up with a better solution — little harder. I don’t think this is the ultimate solution to a doctor for every person in Kamloops but it’s a step in the right direction and should be recognized as such unless there is a better solution at hand.

Doctor opposition to Ajax is only one reason to not support the proposed mine, Ron Watt. Potential environmental and health problems are paramount to those who oppose the Ajax proposal, along with a lack of future investment in Kamloops of a “green” nature which would be more attractive. Our city has a lingering image problem which Ajax would add to. But, it is nice to be able to state our opinions in a considerate, respectful way and still remain cordial to one another, which this site allows us to do.
