A police chase ended in an intersection crash and the eventual arrest of an 18-year-old suspect today.

The saga began on Tranquille Road shortly before 3 p.m. and ended with the arrest after a collision at the intersection of Summit Drive and Arrowstone Drive.

RCMP Sgt. Joe Morrissey said police on patrol in the 300 block of Tranquille Road saw a vehicle with mismatched licence plates about 2:45 p.m. The driver failed to stop when directed by the police, and headed south towards Overlander Bridge.

Police backed off for public safety reasons when the car got close to the downtown core.

They then located the car stopped for traffic on Highway 1 at the Summit Drive exit. RCMP members approached the vehicle on foot but the driver took off down the Summit Drive exit towards the Sahali business area.

It collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Summit Drive at Arrowstone Drive. Kamloops Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance treated the occupants of the other vehicle for minor injuries and transported them to Royal Inland Hospital for further medical evaluation.

Meanwhile, the driver of the suspect vehicle fled the collision scene on foot, but a police dog found him and he was taken into custody without incident.

The 18-year-old is expected to face charges of flight from police, prohibited driving, driving without insurance and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
