Would-be thieves left empty handed early today (Tuesday, Oct. 4) after a failed attempt to heist an ATM.

RCMP received a report at 4 a.m. that someone had broken into the Petro Can store in Rayleigh.

Cpl. Jodie Shelkie said surveillance video shows two or three suspects arriving at the store in a dark coloured SUV. Two of them broke a window, entered the store and tried to remove the cash machine. When they failed to remove the cash portion of the ATM, they got back into their vehicle and fled the scene, she said.

The suspects appear to be male, both were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
