McLeod first of the mark for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo as Harper announces 78-day federal election campaign
NEWS/ POLITICS — Incumbent MP Cathy McLeod was first local candidate off the mark today (Sunday) in what will be an 11-week election campaign in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding and the rest of the country.
Minutes after Prime Minister Stephen Harper emerged from Rideau Hall in Ottawa to announce the dissolution of Parliament and the start of a 78-day campaign, McLeod issued a media release saying she will be running on her record, which she pointed out includes $350 million in federal funding for the riding.
“The past seven years has been an honour serving as your Member of Parliament and I am extremely proud to have delivered on the priorities of Kamloops, Thompson and the Cariboo,” she stated.
She said the Conservatives have created a million new jobs, reduced taxes, made the country safer and kept a promise to balance the budget.
“I look forward to the opportunity to continue to invest in the growth of our communities and I hope that I have earned your trust to continue working hard on your behalf,” said McLeod.
McLeod, elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2011, was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health in February 2015 and for Western Economic Diversification in September 2013. She will be challenged by New Democrat Bill Sundhu, Liberal Steve Powrie, and Green candidate Matt Greenwood.
The election will be Oct. 19.

Ms. McLeod, you forgot to Merion your government put us in another recession by betting everything on oil. We are shedding more jobs than we are creating and your budget won’t be balanced by the end of the year. Oh and don’t forget the hundreds of millions wasted by calling an early election.

Proud of $350 million over 7 years, or an average of $50 million per year. That works out to less than 1 % of federal tax dollars collected from the tax payers of Kamloops ! Good bye Ms McLeod, it is time to go, your pension for two terms should be cancelled for the lack of performance.

All four candidates should be shown the door, back benchers have little say. You can safely assume that that whoever wins this fantastic riding will only be a backbencher with little power. Even the present incumbent has little say about what happens in the big picture.
