Break in water pipe forces closure Canada Games pool

NEWS/ CITY — Due to a break of the main water supply pipe, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre will be closed as of 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday. The nature of the repair and the length of time required to repair it have prompted staff to reschedule the Canada Games Aquatic Centre annual maintenance shutdown period (which is normally Aug. 24 to Sept. 7) to July 24 to Aug. 7.

Combining the pipe repair with the annual preventative maintenance closure will allow the draining and refilling of the pool only once, the city says. “This also allows better utilization of staff resources to conduct the repairs at same time as the annual maintenance shutdown activities.”

Alternative public swimming and lesson options are available at McDonald Park and Brocklehurst outdoor pools, and Riverside Park beach, where lifeguards are on duty. Swimming lessons at Canada Games Aquatic Centre will be cancelled between July 24 and Aug. 7. Customers may choose to register for a new lesson set that will commence Aug. 24.

The Tournament Capital Centre is not affected by the closure.
