LETTER — Physician form just to make us feel better

LETTER — Almost two years ago our doctor retired and I managed to get the form, send it in by e-mail and deliver it in person. In the office of the “Family Practioners” I realized the registration, the forms, the list, etc. are totally useless. For instance, the lady in the office could not tell me what she does with the forms.

Being somewhat sceptical these days of just about everything, my assumption is that the whole nonsense of the forms is to appease the patients by pretending that something is being done.
Well, we live in interesting times.

To understand why filling out forms doesn’t work for a lot of people, just do the math. Take the number of people in need of a family doctor and divide it by the number of doctors taking patients or doctors coming to Kamloops. Assuming 1000 patients per doctor, one will see that there must necessarily be many people with no family doctor.
The list is more like a (bad) Ponzi scheme where only a small percentage will be rewarded relative to the number who sign up.

Ultimately, the problem is lack of govt revenue. When you have low tax rates (as championed by many BC liberals) you get what you pay for.

  2. Two questions: who funds “The Division of Family Practice”? and who are they accountable to?
