One dead in two-vehicle crash at Cherry Creek

UPDATE — A man killed in a collision eight km. west of Kamloops late Friday afternoon has been identified as a 24-year-old Savona man.

CHNL News reported today that the collision, at about 5 p.m. Friday,  was between a Jeep and a Cavalier. A 58-year-old Ashcroft man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital.

UPDATE — Drive B.C. reported at 8 p.m. that the highway was open to single lane alternating traffic.

NEWS/ POLICE — Tk’Emlups RCMP are at the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 at Cherry Creek east of the Cherry Creek store.

Police said as of 5:44 p.m. that little information is available at the onset of the investigation, but Highway 1 is completely closed at a location several kilometres west of the Highway 1 / Highway 5 interchange.

Alternate routes include Highway 5 / Highway 97C via Merritt, and Highway 24 between 93 Mile House and Little Fort.

“The incident involves a head-on collision between two vehicles,” said Sgt. Michael Buxton-Carr.

“One person has been pronounced deceased. Details of the deceased person are not being released pending notification of the next of kin.”
