NEWS/ BRIDGE — Construction crews will be working earlier in the day to avoid the heat as they continue to make progress on the Overlanders Bridge next week.

They’ll work mainly between 3 a.m. and 2 p.m. installing deck joints on the west side of the bridge. That will involve pouring concrete, and the 30 km/hr speed limit will be strictly enforced to keep vibration at a minimum.

Two travel lanes, one each way, will remain open.

The Fortune Drive sidewalk is now re-opened to pedestrians. However, the asphalt pedestrian ramp connecting Fortune Drive to Tranquille Road will remain closed to pedestrians until further notice.

On the other two major reconstruction projects in Kamloops:

Columbia Street Widening Project
– Work continues on the south side of Columbia Street. Pedestrians are advised to use the north sidewalk and to use the crosswalk at 4th Avenue to access the south side businesses, or the crosswalk at 3rd Avenue to access the hospital.
– A minimum of two travel lanes on Columbia Street between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue will remain open (one each direction).
– For up to date transit information (including rerouting), visit: http://bctransit.com/kamloops/home (trip alerts) or call 250-376-1216.

12th Street Road Reconstruction (Tranquille Road to Lethbridge Avenue)
– On Tuesday, July 7 there will be a full road closure at the intersection of 12th Street and Sherbrooke Avenue. Detours will be in effect.
– On Wednesday, July 8 there will be a full road closure at the intersection of 12th Street and Lethbridge Avenue. Detours will be in effect.
– The rest of the week may vary between single alternating traffic, two lane directional traffic, and local traffic only restrictions. Please watch for signs.
