Bylaws officer assaulted by skater

NEWS/ POLICE — An encounter between a City bylaws officer and a man spray painting the back of the Memorial Arena turned nasty Sunday night when the tagger knocked her to the ground with his skate board.

City HallRCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man responsible for the attack, which happened about 8:30 p.m.

The officer approached the man, who hit her with his skate board and fled. She was taken to Royal Inland Hospital and later released.

The male suspect is described as 6 ft. tall, Caucasian, thin build, early 20s, blonde streaks in his hair, wearing green and white swim shorts, black backpack and had a brown skateboard.

Police have seized items left behind by the suspect and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP or call Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.

Real brave coward. Now, we may not always agree with our City bylaws officers, and we of course recognize the fact they have an extremely difficult task. But that being said, they do deserve the protection of the people they serve. The individual in question, did assault her with a weapon, and will probably do it again. Don’t know much about the law, but one could imagine that this is an assault with a weapon. Not only that, but he is also costing the taxpayer money. If captured, maybe the person should be put to cleaning some concrete walls of graffiti. Failing that, there are a large number of CN and CP railway cars that could stand a good cleaning as well. Oh, I forgot, that would be against his rights as outlined in the Charter of Rights.
