Rain dampens wildfire near Lytton

NEWS/ WILDFIRES — Some rain has helped damped the Cisco Road wildfire south of Lytton, with the Wildfire Management Branch reporting minimal activity today.

But the Branch warned winds and warmer temperatures could stoke the fire again as a cold front moves through the region. The fire had grown to 1,500 hectares but is now estimated at 1,280. About 6.7 millimetres of rain fell on Friday.

The fire, classed as out of control for several days, is now 15 per cent contained. Eight-eight firefighters, seven helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment are fighting the blaze.

A public information meeting was being held at the Lytton Memorial Hall at 5 p.m. today, Saturday, to provide residents with an update on the wildfire. Reps from the Lytton First nation, B.C. Wildfire Management Branch and TNRD are attending.

The Stein Valley Nlaka’pamux Heritage Park is on fire alert but remains open.
