Cisco fire reaches 1,500 hectares

NEWS/ WILDFIRES — The big Cisco wildfire west of the Fraser River and south of Lytton has slowed down as 80 firefighters and seven helicopters have been thrown into the battle, but the Wildfire Management Branch reports there’s still no containment.

The fire doubled in size within a few hours to 1,300 hectares on Thursday but by late Friday afternoon was at 1,500. The Branch said no significant growth had occurred since early morning.

While gusty winds experienced Thursday were less in evidence, a cold front moving through the region carried the possibility of erratic winds.

The fire continued to generate smoke throughout the region. Several properties remain on evacuation order or alert.
