National day of action against Bill C-51
A group of Kamloops activists has organized two events to coincide with nationwide protest activities on Saturday, April 18 calling for the defeat of Bill C-51, the federal government’s anti-terrorism bill.
“You’re more likely to be killed by a moose in Canada than a terrorist, and the current laws have already been doing well enough in catching would-be terrorists, so it’s hard to believe this is being done in response to terrorist threats from ISIS,” said organizer Peter Kerek.
A rally will be held at MP Cathy McLeod’s office at 979 Victoria Street at 12 p.m.
A panel discussion will be held later that day at the TRU Clocktower Theatre from 7 – 9 p.m. The panel includes women’s rights activist Athena Joan, First Nations leader Kanahus Manuel, environmentalist Glen Thompson and Communist Party Central organizer Johan Boyden.
