Man threatens suicide, apprehended, taken to RIH

police vanNEWS/ POLICE — An emotionally disturbed man threatening to kill himself was apprehended by RCMP Wednesday night near the float plane dock on Aviation Way.

Police received a call just before 8 p.m. that a man was threatening suicide. After an argument with his father, the 48-year-old left his residence on foot. He was intoxicated and said he wanted to jump in the river.

Kamloops RCMP General Duty members, Police Service Dog unit, mental health Car 40, the RCMP helicopter and Kamloops Fire Rescue were dispatched.

Sgt. Joe Morrissey said the man was tracked by the police service dog to a location near the float plane dock. He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment.
