Molotov cocktail safely detonated

NEWS/ POLICE — A suspected Molotov cocktail was safely detonated Thursday after it was found near a garbage can in the Singh Bowl Park.

RCMP cruiserKamloops RCMP responded to a call alerting them to the suspicious looking device yesterday afternoon. The item was a two-litre plastic pop bottle which contained plastic bags and fluid. The area was secured until the Explosives Disposal Unit arrived to safely destroy the item.

“At about 8:30 p.m. the item was destroyed, producing a fire ball, which was consistent with their being a source of fuel in the device,” Cpl. Cheryl Bush said today, Friday. “There was no risk to any nearby residences and no injuries during the incident.”

Police are continuing their investigation into the origin of the item and anyone with information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP or call Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
