Markowsky Draws in a Fighter Plane
Film Premier and Closing Party
Thursday, March 19, 2015
7 p.m.
Michael Markowsky is a Vancouver-based artist who has occupied The Cube at the Kamloops Art Gallery for the past two months, building a one-third scale model of an RCAF CF-18 “Hornet” fighter jet. His exhibition will be on view until March 21, 2015.
Markowsky Draws in a Fighter Plane is a new 25-minute short film by award-winning Director Michael Peterson. The film documents artist Michael Markowsky’s journey that led him to draw while flying in a RCAF CF-18 “Hornet” fighter jet. Markowsky subsequently made giant paintings and sculpture to share that experience with others.
Both Peterson and Markowsky will be in attendance and will answer questions after the screening.
Peterson’s 2012 feature film Lloyd the Conqueror was a cult hit and featured Brian Posehn (Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond), Harland Williams (Wag the Dog, Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary), and Mike Smith (Trailer Park Boys, Goon).
The film features an original score by acclaimed musician Sam Davidson, well-known member of Vancouver rock band Brasstronaut, in which he plays EWI and clarinet. Davidson’s solo project is Skim Milk.
Other credits include cinematography by Oliver McGarvey (of Rover Films), Tom Gunia and James Reckseidler.
