Police will be keeping a close watch on school zones.

NEWS/ POLICE — Too many people are speeding through school zones and police are going looking for them.

“We have received numerous complaints of speeding in school zones,” said RCMP Cpl. Cheryl Bush.

“We are taking this opportunity to remind drivers of their responsibilities when it comes to driving within these zones.”

The speed limit is in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and she said some school zones are on main thoroughfare roadways. Three places identified as high offender areas are Parkcrest Avenue, Tranquille Road and Summit Drive.

There will be increased patrols in school zones “and if you can’t police yourself, we will, with fines starting at $196.”

Bush also reminded people to be aware of frauds and scams. Two recent ones reported in Kamloops are fraudulent emails being received from Revenue Canada and people selling items online receiving fraudulent cheques.
