NEWS — Planning for the 40th annual walk for peace in Kamloops is underway and organizer Anita Strong says it will be a celebration of the work done by local peace, social, and environmental advocates.

“It is heartening to see so many local groups supporting this year’s walk,” said Strong, chair of the local chapter of the Council of Canadians. “Many are drawn to the event to oppose the Canadian government which stubbornly continues to wage war, degrade environmental protections, and promote inequality.”

Walk 2015 continues the tradition set with the social and political actions taken years ago by Kamloopsians who gathered to demand nuclear disarmament and an end to war, she said.

“We are planning this year’s walk and invite other groups to join us, making the 40th anniversary a special event.”

Walk 2015 takes place Saturday, May 2 from Stuart Wood elementary school.

The next planning session is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, March 7 at the Smorgasbord Deli.
