NEWS/ POLICE — Kamloops RCMP have a man in custody after a rash of break and enters to businesses that occurred overnight, followed by a bait car activation that took place in the East Trans-Canada Highway area.

A 45-year-old man was apprehended after a bait vehicle was stolen at 6 a.m. today (Tuesday). The theft occurred as police were following up on four different business break-ins since about 2 a.m.

Police have determined that the man in custody for the vehicle theft is a suspect in at least one of those break and enters. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to process the scenes and gather evidence.

Further reports of break-ins were this morning that did not come in as alarms overnight. At this point police are considering that this may be related to the investigation into the numerous businesses struck in November of 2014.

On Sunday at about 5 p.m. a break in to Prairie Coast Equipment on Dallas Drive in Kamloops was captured on video surveillance. A smaller, dark colored, SUV was observed arriving at the front gate to the business where a man left the driver seat and hopped the fence to access the yard.

The suspect broke into the office by smashing a window with rocks, and made off with laptop computers. The suspect was wearing a dark jacket, light colored jeans and light colored runners.

This occurred just before dusk and other vehicles could be observed passing by the area while this was taking place. Police are asking anyone who may have been in that area on Jan. 25 at about 5 p.m. and recall seeing the vehicle to please contact Kamloops RCMP or call Crime Stoppers.
