When will Kamloops Target store close?
NEWS — Target will close all 133 of its Canadian stores, but when will the Kamloops store be on the chopping block?
Target Canada hasn’t pinpointed when specific stores will be shut down, but the company says the process will take four or five months to complete. “Generally speaking, the stores will remain open on a case-by-case basis during the liquidation period,” Target said in a press release.
“On average, this process may take 16 -20 weeks.”
Liquidation is expected to start in about two to three weeks, Target said.
The company said employees will be told directly of their termination dates. Target Corporation chairman and CEO Brian Cornell said Target Corp. has created an employee trust that will provide eligible employees a minimum of 16 weeks’ compensation including wages and benefit coverage for those not required for the full wind-down period.
Media across Canada were publishing stories Friday on the reaction of shoppers to Target’s announcement it is pulling out of Canada. Most said reaction has been mixed, with the consensus appearing to be that shoppers aren’t surprised by the move.
