NEWS/ CITY HALL — A week’s worth of snow clearing cost Kamloops taxpayers $400,000.

Utilities director Jen Fretz reported to City council that, between Jan. 4, when the snow started, and today (Tuesday), a quarter of the budget for the entire year was used up. She said regular staff time accounted for $160,000 of the cost, with overtime and contractors costing $240,000.

The snow clearing budget for 2015 is $1.6 million.

Mayor Peter Milobar quipped that the good news is that the snow storm dumped a third of the snow expected for the year, so the City is actually ahead of the game.
