City’s first murder of old year

NEWS/ POLICE — Kamloops almost made it through 2014 without a homicide but what turned out to be the first and only one of the year resulted in a murder charge Wednesday (Dec. 31) against a 41-year-old man.

RCMPA 911 call Tuesday afternoon sent RCMP to a Cherry Avenue apartment where they found Deanne Genevieve Wheeler, 26, dead.

Christopher Frank Butler was arrested and charged in Provincial Court on Wednesday. Police said the apartment in which Wheeler was found belonged to Butler.

They said the exact cause of death has yet to be determined and the investigation to gather further evidence is ongoing.

Const. Jason Epp said Butler will remain in custody pending his next court appearance.
