Counterfeit US $100 bills used at retail outlets

NEWS/ POLICE — Somebody’s been passing counterfeit US $100 bills and Kamloops RCMP are looking for him.

Police issued an alert Thursday to retailers and merchants about two incidents where counterfeit US $100 notes were passed. On Monday, a man entered the Salish Road Esso and made a purchase with a US $100 note, followed by a report Tuesday where a man passed a US $100 bill at Boston Pizza in Sahali.

In both cases it was found after the fact that the bill was counterfeit.

“A similar description of the male from both businesses leads police to believe that it may be the same suspect,” said Cpl. Cheryl Bush.

The man is described as First Nations, about five ft., six inches tall, and heavy set. Both of these instances remain under investigation in efforts to identify the suspect. Merchants are asked to use caution when accepting notes and to utilize any counterfeit detecting tools they have.

Bush advised merchants to visit http://www.bankofcanada.ca, which covers both Canadian and US currencies, for more information on counterfeit detection.
