Mountie praised in House of Commons
NEWS/ POLICE — Cpl. Jean Rene Michaud, the Kamloops RCMP officer wounded by gunfire last week, received praise in the House of Commons on Wednesday.
Michaud was shot during a traffic stop in Batchelor Heights and remains in Intensive Care at Royal Inland Hospital. A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting.
Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod called the shooting “horrific” and said such events “are dark reminders of the dangers front-line RCMP officers across the country are putting themselves in every day of the year.
“They will be serving, as we spend time with our families on Christmas Eve and as we sit down to our Christmas dinners, defending and protecting Canadians and their communities.”
McLeod said it’s important to extend appreciation and thanks to those who protect the public. “These are individuals who have built a reputation for ensuring a safe and secure Canada. The RCMP is an organization that is recognized around the world for the courage and accomplishments demonstrated by its members.”
