Suspect found dead after police hunt
NEWS/ POLICE — A 40-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a domestic dispute was found dead in his pickup truck late Tuesday on Lac le Jeune Road.
RCMP were called about 2:10 p.m. about a domestic dispute in the downtown core and there was concern a man involved in the dispute would try to contact children associated with him who were attending R.L. Clemitson elementary school in Barnhartvale.
The school was locked down as police hunted for the white 2007 GMC pickup until it was determined he wasn’t in the area of the school. Children then left school with their guardians.
Cpl. Cheryl Bush said Tuesday night the police helicopter eventually spotted the truck in the Lac Le Jeune Road area. As they cordoned off the area, the truck went off the roadway.
“When police were able to safely approach the vehicle, it was determined that a lone male occupant in the vehicle was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted injury and a firearm was recovered in the vehicle,” she said.
She thanked School District 73 and parents of R.L. Clemitson kids for their patience until the children could leave school.
