New Kamloops-Thompson school board takes office

NEWS/ SCHOOLS — The board of trustees will be sworn into office tonight (Monday) for the Kamloops-Thompson School District.

SD73Joan Cowden, Kathleen Karpuk, Joe Small, Meghan Wade and Gerald Watson were elected Nov. 15 to fill the five City of Kamloops seats on the board, while Shelley Sim represents North Thompson (Electoral Areas A and B), Cara McKelvey represents Area J and the District of Logan Lake, Denise Harper represents Areas L and P and Chase, and Rhonda Kershaw represents Area O, Barriere and Little Fort.

Small is the only new trustee for the City. Sim won election while McKelvey, Harper and Kershaw got in by acclamation.

Master Robert McDiarmid of the B.C. Supreme Court will administer the oaths of office, after which a chair and vice chair will be elected by the trustees. Harper is the incumbent chair.

The board will also pick representatives for the B.C. School Trustees Association Provincial Council and the B.C. Public School Employers Association.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
