RCMP officer undergoes more surgery

NEWS/ POLICE — The Kamloops RCMP officer who was shot during a traffic stop early Wednesday underwent a second surgery Thursday night and remains in intensive care at Royal Inland Hospital.

Cpl. Jean Michaud was shot when he approached a car during a traffic stop in Batchelor Heights. Kenneth Knutson 36, has been charged with attempted murder. Marquee Jasmin Klim, 28, has been charged with willfully resisting or obstructing a police officer.

RCMP say Michaud’s family is at his side and RCMP colleagues are looking after all of the family’s needs.

“On behalf of Cpl. Michaud and his family, Kamloops RCMP would like to thank the public for their continued support, generosity and well wishes,” an RCMP statement said.

The investigation surrounding the incident continues.
