Charges laid in shooting of Mountie
NEWS/ POLICE — Thirty-six-year-old Kenneth Knutson was expected to appear in court today (Thursday) charged with the attempted murder of an RCMP officer in a roadside shooting Wednesday morning.
Knutson is also reportedly being charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, possessing a firearm while prohibited, and firing a weapon with intent.
RCMP have now seized the vehicle that was involved in a traffic stop early Wednesday when Cpl. Rene Michaud was shot.
Cpl. Cheryl Bush said police operations have continued since Wednesday in the Bachelor Heights area at a residence on Raven Drive.
“During the course of this investigation, there have been a total of three other females arrested, however it is too early to speculate on what charges they may face,” she said.
One of the women was arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants, said Bush.
Michaud remains in critical but stable condition in intensive care and is expected to undergo further surgery.
“The incredible amount of support being offered to Kamloops RCMP and Cpl. Michaud’s family is both overwhelming and heartwarming,” Bush said.
The Independent Investigation Office, which sent investigators to Kamloops because the suspect suffered a gunshot wound, today turned jurisdiction of the investigation back to the RCMP.
The shooter in Kamloops and the shooter in Mayerthorpe ,as incorigables should have been incarcerated for life, the two from Moncton and Ottawa should have been in an asylum. The primary reason for the death of the policemen involved was the result of a completely incompetent justice system, run by the Canadian Law Society,Criminal Law in itself has become a lucrative industry. We need a few Judge Begbies and more prison farms.Northern Sask. would be my pick.We are constantly told by the media that the crime rate is falling and they expect us to believe it.What,s going on in the Lower Mainland to-day makes the Chicago and New York mob look like schoolboys. In Singapore if convicted of dealing in drugs, one is put up against a wall and shot. There is no longer a drug problem in Singapore.Drugs are at the root of almost all the serious crime in this country. How do we,as a supposedly civilized society stop it?Well,we become less tolerant, less civilized in certain areas, take off the rose coloured glasses and get damned tough and unforgiving towards certain segments, otherwise it will continue.
