Nominees announced for arts gala

ARTS — Awards will be given in three categories at the Mayor’s Gala for the Arts on Jan. 31. Nominees were announced Friday.

4 Cats Art Studio, Academy of Dance and Noran Printing are in the running for the Business in the Arts category, while James Bethell, Lea Bucknell and Caitlin Goulet are nominated for Emerging Artist, and Sylvia Olson and Richard Wagamese are in the Literary Arts category.

The Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops Symphony and Western Canada Theatre, along with Mayor Peter Milobar, announced the nominees at a media conference.

About 300 people are expected to attend the $125-a-plate event, themed as 1940s Hollywood Glamour. Last year’s event raised $35,000.
