TRU Foundation and UW team up
COMMUNITY — The TRU Foundation and the employee-led United Way campaign have joined forces as the TRUly United Campaign. TRU launched its annual United Way campaign Monday to raise money for student awards and bursaries as well as for the community and region.
Last year 596 TRU employees contributed to the TRU Foundation and United Way through payroll deduction and payroll lottery. This year the goal of the campaign is to raise a combined $150,000, increasing scholarships and bursaries and making a greater impact on UW community initiatives.
The Kelson Group, to commemorate its 40 anniversary, is increasing its annual contribution to $40,000, adding funds to be used as matching as an incentive for TRU employees to support students on campus and the agencies throughout the wider community.
“We pledge to match new or increased gifts to either of these worthwhile community causes,” said Jason Fawcett, vice-president of the Kelson Group, a local property management organization.
Last year the foundation provided scholarships and bursaries to 688 students. Due to a shortage of funds, another 318 eligible students did not receive aid.
This year’s campaign goal is $2.5 million.
