Forums focus on seniors, education issues
NEWS/ CIVIC ELECTION 2014 — Put two more forums on your schedule for the upcoming civic election.
Incumbent school trustee Gerald Watson has organized a forum for school-trustee candidates Nov. 6 at St. Andrews on the Square from 7 to 9 p.m.. This forum is usually the only one specifically for school board candidates.
All 15 candidates seeking one of the five City of Kamloops seats on the nine-member board will be invited along with candidates from contest rural areas.
“I think it is vitally important that the right people are elected to school board,” said Watson. “There is a tremendous amount of responsibility that goes with the role and the public needs an opportunity to assess the candidates in person.”
Former Kamloops councillor Nancy Bepple is organizing an all-candidates forum for City council candidates focusing on seniors’ issues. The forum will be Monday, Nov. 10 from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m. in Desert Gardens at 540 Seymour St.
Each candidate will have an opportunity to speak and answer questions.
“I’ve organized the seniors’ forum for the past three elections,” Bepple said. “It made sense to so it again. Most of the other forums are at night, which makes it difficult for many seniors to attend.”
Once again, useless, we need something later in the evening.
