Civic politicians wrap up annual UBCM convention

NEWS/ POLITICS — B.C. civic politicians wrap up their annual convention today, Friday, in Whistler.

Representatives from municipal councils and regional district met all week long to attend workshops, listen to speeches and debate resolutions — including one from Kamloops asking that bylaws officers be given the authority to break into vehicles to rescue dogs in hot weather.

That resolution was approved and will be forwarded to the provincial government as a request to change current legislation that allows only police and SPCA constables to break windows to save pets in distress.

The Union of B.C. Municipalities provided photos for media use during the convention, including one of Mayor Peter Milobar speaking during the debate of resolutions. A few of the photos are posted here.
