Police have suspect in custody after pair of robberies

NEWS/ POLICE — A 43-year-old man is in jail after a pair of robberies Friday afternoon.

Kamloops RCMP received two separate reports of robberies at about 1:45 p.m. One call was to the Tranquille Market at the corner of 12th Street and Tranquille Road where a male had reportedly robbed the clerk, and may have had a firearm.

RCMP signThe other call indicated a woman had been robbed by a man last seen running towards Lethbridge Avenue. Descriptions of the suspect in both instances was similar. As police were responding to the calls, further information was received that the suspect may have gone into a housing complex on the corner of Singh Street and Lethbridge Avenue.

Police surrounded the residence and removed occupants from neighbouring units to ensure their safety.

“Numerous attempts were made to contact the individual inside the residence without any response,” said Cpl. Cheryl Bush.

Emergency response team members entered the residence to look the suspect, and the 43-year-old man was found hiding inside the home and was taken into custody without incident.

While searching the residence for the suspect, police seized two BB guns.
