Editorial — ISIS atrocities will backfire
SUNDAY MORNING EDITORIAL — Another innocent has been beheaded by the ISIS terrorists. David Haines, a Scottish aid worker, is reported to be the latest victim.
The murder, of course, was immediately condemned by Western leaders.
“This is a despicable and appalling murder of an innocent aid worker. It is an act of pure evil,” said British Prime Minister David Cameron.
“The United States stands shoulder to shoulder tonight with our close friend and ally in grief and resolve,” said U.S. president Barack Obama.
Primer Minister Stephen Harper tweeted that “Canada condemns the barbaric killing of David Haines.”
Strong words but, it appears to most of us, little action. Yet, that will surely change.
What the ISIS killers fail to realize is that their tactic of trying to frighten their enemies will make those enemies more determined to stop them.
Western Allies who are slow to act because of public opinion against sending men and women into combat will soon find that they’re being told by that same public to wage all-out war on the people who are committing such atrocities.
The “broad coalition of nations from the region and around the world” called for by Obama will come together to do battle, and it will be one that ISIS can’t win. And it won’t be because of oil, or religion, or vague principles, but because of anger.
