New seasons underway for arts groups

Rensch, JennThe Kamloops Arts Council presents Children’s Art Festival ~ Fables and Fantasy. Taking place at Riverside Park, Saturday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. this is a free family friendly event geared toward children of the ages 2 and up. In its 15th year this year is going to be the biggest one to date. There are more than 35 workshops to take in, from creating henna, zendalas, magic wands, wizard hats, or Secwepemc animal masks. How about training to be Knight? Or learning to belly dance? All things your little ones will get to do at the Children’s Art Festival. This year’s headliner is The Green Man; join him as he spins a tale of magic and mystery. For more information http://www.kamloopsarts.ca.

With fall around the corner it means the opening of the regular season for many local groups, here are a couple that happen this weekend:

Laughing Stock Theatre Society presents A Second Helping of Dinner & Drinks, Sept. 12 & 13. This is an adult comedy, as there is course language and sexual themes. The play peeks into the lives of five different couples all in various stages of their relationships out for dinner and drinks. Western Canada Theatre opens their 2014/15 season with Closer Than Ever, Sept. 12 – 19. This musical touches on multiple topics such as second marriages, aging, and unrequited love affectionately and with humour.

Lastly, the Kamloops Writes Festival doesn’t take place until November, but you can explore your writing techniques during Wade Write In. A free two-part workshop, Sept. 16 & 23 hosted by the Kamloops Library and facilitated by Wendy Weseen. Preregistration is required; call the Kamloops Library at 250-372-5145 for more information
