TRU forum to discuss terrorism and student who joined ISIS
NEWS — In the wake of a revelation that a former Thompson Rivers University student has joined the terrorist group ISIS in Syria, a forum will discuss the subject today at 4 p.m.
The forum, sponsored by the Human Rights Committee of the TRU Faculty Association, will ask the question, “How could a TRU Business student be fooled into joining the ISIS terrorists?”
It will be held in room AE 262.
A CBC report revealed last week that Collin Gordon and his brother Greg disappeared in late 2012 from Calgary and are thought to have joined ISIS. Collin Gordon attended both TRU and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, the story said.
While at TRU, Collin Gordon founded the Kamloops Social Club, which hosted several entertainment events.
On a Twitter account said to be by Collin Gordon tweeting as Abu Ibrahim Canadi, the question was asked Tuesday, “What is the daily schedule of an ISIS fighter like yourself; just fighting or other things?”
The reply was “We live very normal lives & answer the call when called. Better lives than most Canadians, the Govt & Shariah is much better.”
Earlier story ISIS fighter once attended TRU, says report.
