Children’s Arts Festival is back

ARTS — The Kamloops Arts Council’s Children’s Art Festival is back for its 15th year, taking place Saturday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverside Park.

ChildrensartPerforming artists — including larger-than-life storyteller/stiltwalker The Green Man, and local youth musicians, actors and dancers — will be featured onstage. The festival also presents more than 30 hands-on arts activities for children ages two and up. With support of lead sponsors the City of Kamloops, B.C. Arts Council, Teck & B100, all events and activities are free of charge, with an expected 4,000 in attendance.

The theme of this year’s Festival is Fables & Fantasty. Children can learn to be a Camelot Knight in Training, make their own Wizard Potion and create a Magic Wand or Secwepemc Legend animal mask. Emcee Steve Ayres will host a full roster of performers, including headliner The Green Man; Kiki the Eco Elf; the KAC Rivertown Players & friends; and Uncle Chris the Clown.

Children are encouraged to enter the Children’s Art Festival Colouring Contest — watch for the entry form in the Sept. 4 & 11 issues of Kamloops This Week and enter to win prizes, including tickets to the WCT’s Bird Brain, pool and museum passes from the City of Kamloops, gift cards to River City Gymnastics and Let’s Move Studio, and more.
