Editorial — Amazing work by responders to bus crash
FRIDAY MORNING EDITORIAL — As terrible an accident as it was — they don’t call the Coquihalla the Highway Through Hell for nothing — there was something to be thankful for in Thursday’s bus roll-over that injured so many people.
All sorts of numbers tell the story: five passengers in critical condition, 10 in serious condition, 28 others injured. Ten taken to Royal Inland Hospital, 22 to Kelowna General, 11 to Nicola Valley Hospital and Health Centre. Nineteen ambulances and six air ambulances.
Not to mention a lot of police cars and other support that had to deal with the carnage.
This was a truly amazing display of a system that worked. The logistics of it were nightmarish — dealing with scores of injured people, getting them transported and having the necessary medical staff at the ready as they arrived. Meanwhile, the province’s major highway had to be shut down to deal with it.
Yet, barely an hour and half after the accident, the highway was partially re-opened to traffic. Through it all, authorities were releasing timely information to the public.
Seamless coordination. Crisis management at its best. Amazing work.

Amazing work indeed, also considering the relative distance away from a major center.
I understand translators were brought in also. There is a system in place that works and that is majorly reassuring.
