Run, walk, sip, eat, listen

Today, Aug. 22, head over to Gardengate, 915 Southill Street, to experience delicious salsa during the 11th Annual Summer Salsa Challenge. From 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. watch as teams from community groups and organizations participate in this friendly salsa-making competition. Once you’ve had your fill of samples cast your vote for the Team Spirit Award, local salsa experts will award the coveted Chef’s Choice award and bragging rights. On Aug. 24 participate in the 2014 Kamloops Kidney Walk/Run, 10 a.m. at Riverside Park. As some of you may know this event is near and dear to my heart as my lovely friend Dorothy Drinnan (yes, as in the wife of Gregg Drinnan, former Sports Editor of the Kamloops Daily News) received a kidney transplant in late 2013. If you follow Gregg’s blog Taking Note you will know that a year ago Dorothy “couldn’t walk 100 meters without stopping to take a rest.” Well, now she’s preparing to do the 2.5 km walk to help give back to the Kidney Foundation that has supported her throughout her journey. There’s many ways to get involved, on the day of register to walk or run, donate by pledging Dorothy (as I write this she has moved to the top of the fundraisers list for Kamloops), volunteer or just come out and cheer on the participants. The Kamloops Symphony and Harper’s Trail Winery present Sip into the Sunset. Enjoy a beautiful summer evening filled with live music, scrumptious food prepared by Terra Restaurant, paired with a variety of B.C. wines. This event takes place at Harper’s Trail, 2720 Shuswap Road on Sunday, Aug. 24 starting 5 p.m., tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Kamloops Symphony office.
