Proposed alternative pipeline route around Ajax.

NEWS/ AJAX — A proposed detour for the Trans Mountain pipeline around the Ajax mine site was filed with the National Energy Board today (Friday).

Kinder Morgan said the route change would undergo a separate process from the proposed Trans Mountain expansion project.

“Trans Mountain has been working with the proponents of the Ajax mine project to understand their future plans for the development of the mine property south of the City of Kamloops,” Kinder Morgan said in a news advisory.

“Should the Ajax mine project receive all of its necessary regulatory approvals, both Trans Mountain’s existing pipeline and the proposed pipeline corridor would require relocation for the purposes of mine development activities.”

The map for the new route submitted to the NEB is consistent with one revealed July 19 in The Armchair Mayor News, showing the pipeline passing west of Jacko Lake, running roughly parallel to the Lac le Jeune Road and then turning east across Crown land and ranch land recently acquired by KGHM International from the Little Ranch to rejoin the existing pipe.

The updated submission to the NEB says environmental field studies on the Ajax corridor will be done this summer and fall. It says 13 new land parcels are affected, including 11 owned by KGHM, one by the Crown and one by a private landowner.

“The private landowner has not raised any specific concerns regarding the proposed alternative pipeline corridor.

“The proponents of the Ajax Mine are supportive of the proposed routing for the alternative pipeline corridor.”

“She’s a Go!” Looks like the AJAX project is becoming more of a reality every week. All of industry, and government, are getting their ducks lined up in a row to be prepared for the eventual certificate of approval to develop the old Teck mine near Knutsford/Aberdeen.
Why is the City of Kamloops allowing the development of the Aberdeen Highlands? Development of residential housing, simply a stones throw from where the AJAX Open Pit is?
Yes, the hole is already there, at least 10 or 15 stories deep, massive hole in the ground/rock from the 1980’s and 1990’s when Teck and the old Afton company mined there.
But, there was nobody living in upper Aberdeen then? No Fire Station, no Elementary school, no townhouse developments, and residential developments back then.
The mine is going to be developed “She’s a Go!” Why are we allowing the continued development of the Aberdeen Highlands and having people and families move into new sub-divisions next an Open Pit mine?

    • The Aberdeen hills development may turn out to be a good thing after all if Ajax actually starts-up. As more and more people begin to suffer the ill-effects from the Ajax monster, the law suits will be piling up and eventually putting an end for good to this craziest of an idea.

    • How exactly does this make Ajax a “go?” KM has to plan for the event the mine goes through. They can’t just sit back and wait. The mine site goes right over their existing pipieline so if anything KM is just preparing things in the event Ajax goes in. If it is rejected, I doubt KM will follow the re-route.

Oops, better be careful, someone will probably be protesting the Ajax pipe detour.
