NEWS/ MOUNT POLLEY — Residents and local businesses in Likely and the surrounding area “are on the road to recovery,” says the provincial government in an update today (Thursday) on the aftermath of last Monday’s rupture in the Mount Polley mine’s tailings pond.

Most of the drinking water advisory has been removed from the area.

“In spite of the tailings pond incident, the Cariboo region boasts world-class attractions and outdoor experiences,” the news release said.

Further water samples have been tested “and confirm that all samples, once again, meet provincial and federal drinking water guidelines.”

Imperial Metals, the owner of the mine, will hold a community meeting in Likely at 6 p.m. today.

  2. I wonder why they haven’t released any sediment analysis yet…. It will be interesting to see if the old adage about releasing information on Friday if you don’t want it widely reported is in play. They certainly seem to like re-releasing the information that the water is still okay, but none of the experts seem to expect that to change.
