NEWS/ CIVIC ELECTION 2014 — Chamber of commerce past president Bob Dieno officially announced today he’ll run for a spot on Kamloops City council in November’s civic elections.

Dieno said in April he was considering running.

“It is a big commitment but I am ready to take on the challenge and the commitment to the city,” he said today.

Dieno said he is known for his “business success, common sense approach to decision making, leadership skills and willingness to listen to all sides before forming an opinion.”

His priorities, he said, will be fiscal responsibility, safe streets, attracting business and reducing water use.

He said he would explore tax innovations and ways to establish “competitive tax rates” for businesses and cut red tape. Dieno said he would encourage a culture of “Kamloops is open for business, your business.”

Dieno is the owner of Nutech Fire & Safety.

  1. Bob Dieno use to be my football coach… Knowing business is great but does not say anything about his heart! He was an amazing leader and coach! He inspired a lot of young men including myself to always strive and to do your best no matter the circumstances. Bob is the leader we need on our city council! For these reasons he will for sure get my family’s vote!

  2. I think our city council is already pretty business friendly. I would prefer people with an interest in the community that is far broader to represent me. I am interested in living within our means, livability, vision for the future and protection of the general public – candidates who are going to advocate for quality of life for the majority of residents will get my vote. Money isn’t even close to everything.

One should never prejudge, but It should be clear that anyone with a successful background in the Chamber of Commerce is oriented very highly to business. Naturally, business serves itself first and others – the public,,the environment and society as secondary concerns.

  4. Dieno seems like a genuine person and I’m sure he has Kamloops’ best interests in mind. But to some, since the chamber is an Ajax supportor, this may turn people off. I’m sure it will all come out in the candidate debates.
