Traffic delayed on both Highway 5 and Highway 97

UPDATE (11:11 p.m. Monday) — Highway 97 five km. south of the junction with Highway 1 at Monte Creek was still restricted to single lane alternating traffic with up to 30-minute delays as of 10:21 p.m.

UPDATE (8:49 p.m. Monday) — Traffic on Highway 97 five km. south of the junction with Highway 1 at Monte Creek was open to an alternating single lane with delays of up to 30 minutes.

NEWS — Two motor vehicle accidents were causing traffic delays in the Kamloops region Monday evening.

An incident on Highway 5 about 15 km. south of Barriere reduced traffic to single lane alternating as of 7:30 p.m.

Highway 97 was closed in both directions five km. south of the junction with Highway 1 at Monte Creek. Northbound traffic was advised to detour via Barnhartvale Road to Highway 1 and southbound was told to detour via Highway 97B.

It wasn’t known when the highway would be re-opened but Drive B.C. expected an update later tonight (Monday).

There were no details on either accident.
