NEWS — Kamloops area residents were treated to a spectacular sound and light show Saturday night as a lightning storm took more than an hour to pass through.

The storm arrived about 8:30 p.m. and was still rumbling faintly after 10 p.m. as it headed east. Both sheet and dozens of forked lightning strikes marked the storm, at times lighting up the sky as if it were daylight.

Rain was sporadic as the storm passed over, and the weather forecast is for a continuing chance of precipitation into Sunday but with sunny skies and temperatures passing the 30C mark.

Wildfire Management Branch has reported rising fire danger ratings throughout the Interior and is bracing for more wildfires after several days of hot, dry conditions.
