400 runners expected for Kamloops Marathon on Sunday

SPORTS — More than 400 runners are expected to be at the starting line Sunday for the annual Kamloops Marathon.

The run includes 3K, 8K, half marathon and full marathon categories, starting and finishing at McArthur Island. The full marathon and marathon relay start bright and early at 6 a.m. The last group to start will be the 3K fun run at 10:30.

Awards presentations will be at 11 a.m. in the finish area.

Online registration is over but last-minute registrations will be accepted today, Saturday, during the Race Package Pickup and Expo at McArthur Island from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

The Kamloops Marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and registrants this year will also have a chance at winning airfare for two to the Boston Marathon. One trip will be drawn from marathon registrants and one from registrants in the half-marathon and 8K.

Proceeds from the event go to support TRU WolfPack athletes to offset tuition and books.
