Project X, Marathon and Music Jam
Project X Theatre is on now, running until Aug. 9. This year the classic Alice in Wonderland comes alive on stage with all your favourite characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved novel. The other show, The Last of the Dragons, may not be as well known but is sure to delight. It’s the story of a princess who is tied to a rock so she can be kidnapped by a dragon and then rescued by a prince. The catch is, this princess plans to defeat the dragon herself. These two magical shows alternate each night and with a few matinee performances, there’s a chance to take in both. To purchase tickets, go online to http://www.projectxtheatre.ca.
The third annual Kamloops Marathon takes place Sunday, July 27. This run includes a full marathon, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier, as well as a half marathon, an eight-km run/walk and a three-km fun run, perfect for those with young children. At the finish line there will be a completion medal topped off with a pancake breakfast for all participants. Proceeds from this event go to support TRU WolfPack athletes. The last day to register is Saturday July 26 at the race Expo. For further details go to http://www.kamloopsmarathon.ca.
If you haven’t been to Music in the Park yet, I recommend going Wednesday, July 30 for the BCLC Midsummer Music Jam. As always, it’s a free event, but this night it’s also a fundraiser for the Kamloops Food Bank, so you’re asked to take a non-perishable food item. Not sure what foods are needed most? The Food Bank’s top 10 needed items can be found here: kamloopsfoodbank.org/wp-content/uploads/Top10Items.pdf.
There will be two performers: Champagne Republic, described as a funky R&B band, and country pop sisters Robyn & Ryleigh. Besides a double-headline, there will also be free ice cream and prizes, compliments of BCLC in partnership with Radio NL.
