NEWS/ CITY — A scaled-down housing development on Westsyde Road at The Dunes golf course will go to the Agricultural Land Commission for consideration.

Kamloops City council this week decided to forward the proposal to the ALC without comment, on the basis it will return for discussion if it passes muster at the ALC.

Developer Bill Bilton of North Core Developments wants to remove a 4.6-hectare linear strip north of the Westlinks residential development that backs onto the Dunes golf course along Westsyde Road. The property is currently part of The Dunes.

An earlier application to take 6.68 hectares out of the ALR for 317 housing units in the centre of the golf course was denied.

Coun. Donovan Cavers wanted to also refer the proposal to the City’s agricultural committee but fellow councillors were concerned that might delay Bilton’s plans.

If the ALC approves the application, Bilton would have to apply for rezoning to fit the development. Council would then call a public hearing.
