84-year-old Surrey man who died after incident at Paul Lake identified

NEWS — The man who died following an incident at Paul Lake on July 12 has been identified.

B.C. Coroners ServiceThe B.C. Corners Service said today he was Lyle Johnston, aged 84, from Surrey.

Johnston was staying at the family’s summer cabin on Paul Lake and went down to the lake to cool off in the water. He was seen to be in distress in the water.

Family and neighbours were able to rescue him from about five metres of water, and he was taken to Royal Inland Hospital, where he died several hours later.

The coroners service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
