Heritage Commission going modern with video conferencing

NEWS — The Kamloops Heritage Commission wants to get into the online age.

The commission, at times plagued with a lack of quorums at its meetings, is asking for a bylaw amendment to allow the use of video and teleconferencing to help make sure it can conduct its business unhampered by absence of members.

Staff recommended earlier in the year that the commission be merged with the community arts commission based partly on the quorum issue was one of the reasons. When heritage commission members rebelled, council and staff backed off.

Now, the commission wants to make sure quorums don’t continue to be a problem. The change will require City council approval to amend the Council Procedure Bylaw.

To bad that the Heritage Commission is having a difficult time getting a quorum for its meetings. Many organizations in our community are having the same problem. Maybe the problem is found in the way that the City selects people to sit on their city committees. Who exactly are sitting on this committee?
