Intersection pain not quite over yet

NEWS/ CITY — The pain isn’t quite over yet at the intersection of First Avenue and Victoria, Lansdowne and Lorne Streets but the end is almost in sight.

The project is expected to wrap up towards the end of this month.

intersection - conesDrivers have been patiently making their way through the construction zone all spring and summer, and hot weather has raised dust levels the past several days. Construction at the end of the week focused on median curbs on First Avenue and installation of paving stones along the west side of First.

Currently, there’s no access on the 100 block Victoria Street to First Avenue — it’s now a temporary cul de sac. That’s expected to continue until the project nears completion.

Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association administrator Tanya Hamelok emphasized that businesses on the 100 block Victoria Street remain open and accessible.

The $1.8-million project — $200,000 more than than budgeted — got underway in early April. Here’s the schedule of work for the rest of the month:

July 14 – 15: Vic/1st Top Lift Asphalt;
July 16 – 17: Lansdowne Bottom Lift Asphalt;
July 17 – 18: Lansdowne/Lorne Top Lift Asphalt;
July 21: Traffic signals online;
July 16 – 22: Victoria/1st crosswalk concrete banding;
July 22 – 25: Lorne crosswalk concrete banding;
July 21 – 25: Crosswalk paving stones;
July 21 – 25: Ornamental Lights.
